The intermediate level of the Combat Defence System (CDS) is designed to equip security operatives with enhanced tactical capabilities for medium to high-threat scenarios. Building on the foundational principles of stress response and basic combatives, this course introduces controlled takedown techniques, targeted body and head strikes, and practical applications for real-world engagements.

This intermediate-level course marks a critical step in transitioning from fundamental defensive skills of the Combat Defence System (CDS) to applied tactical effectiveness.

Course Learning Outcomes

The Learning Objectives associated with this level of CDS Training are as follows:

  1. The Learner will possess an understanding of Dynamic Situational Awareness.
  2. The learner will understand the use of and implement the ‘Flinch Response’.
  3. The learner will know the use of Enhanced Defensive Tactics and when and where to implement.
  4. The learner will know the use of Pre-Emptive Defence & Intercepting Strikes and when and where to implement them.
  5. The learner will know the use of Close-Range Striking Skills and when and where to implement.
  6. The learner will be instructed in areas of how to identify potential ambush.
  7. The learner will gain an understanding of Verbal & Psychological Tactics (Intermediate) and how to utilise them in a defensive situation.
Target Audience

This course is perfectly suited to private individuals who have already attended our Combat Defence System – Defensive Measures (Foundations-Level) Course, and wish to continue building on their self-defence knowledge. The course is also suited to members of the Military, Law Enforcement, Prison Service Officer, and Private Security Company (PSC) & Private Military Company (PMC) Operators.

SPG CDS Training Team

The Combat Defence System – Defensive Measures (Intermediate-Level) Course is instructed by former UK Military (Royal Marines Commandos) personnel. Instructors are schooled in various forms of Martial Arts and Unarmed Combat.

Course Certificate

Upon successful completion of this course, Learners will be awarded the Combat Defence System – Defensive Measures (Intermediate-Level) Course Certificate by Special Projects Group.
